P!NK ‘F**ckin Perfect’ Art Response By Rebecca Bartlett

Music videos are a form of art to relay feelings and messages. The controversial ones really try to bring issues to light and combat them in their own ways. ‘F**cking Perfect’ by P!NK is one that stands out to me in particular. I think it says a lot when a song can be something that helps someone turn from feeling depressed to feeling like they are worth something. Influences from culture are a major point in this. The invisible boxes and rules that everyone seems to be required to fit in order to be perfect are definitely a big issue. It is one of the many things that contributes to depression, self-harm, issues growing up, and suicide. Those topics are avoided and a challenged when trying to talk about it at all. In the video, we are all shown a great deal so the message is memorable because it challenged censorship and showed what society tries to cover up. She showed us the story of a woman who endured growing up with no one understanding her, a parent who would not let her be herself, and judgment from all around her; moreover, we are shown her depression up to the point of wanting to commit suicide. They are often pushed under a certain by the rest of the world. By making this video she delivers her message of awareness about these things, but it also to help those who have gone through it. The key thing is her aim to help people understand they are perfect as they are.
