Reading Response- Mary McAmis

These readings were, well, VERY interesting to study. Rather, the studying was way more difficult than I assumed it would be. I had to re-read these readings over and over to even get the slightest hint of what was happening and even then I still am completely lost at what I have read. Despite that I enjoyed trying, at least, to figure out what was happening in each reading.

The Auto-destructive Art reading by Gustav seemed very thrill seeking to me. Exploding bombs, Ballistics, nuclear weapons, and even rockets, they all seem so exciting to watch go off and completely dangerous. I enjoy the idea of that kind of thrill, that kind of action. Literally, I just imagine so many explosions and damage everywhere and that is so insane to me, I love it.

“Static, static, static!” Static? Static. But, movement is static? Change and be static. I have no idea if I read this one right, but, when I read it, I felt oddly motivated and I feel some sort of inspiration within this reading and that I could be easily “hypnotized” to do exactly what it says. There are parts that really spoke to me in a personal level of that I should “just keep swimming” and keep pushing through my life despite what I think is dragging me down. It is a nice feeling. “Be yourself by growing above yourself. Don’t stand in your own way. … If we stand still, we block our own path, and we are confronted with our own controversies. …Let us contradict ourselves because we change. Let us be good and evil, true and false, beautiful and loathsome. We are all of these anyway. Let us admit it by accepting movement. Let us be static! Be static!”
