The Works of Norman Rockwell by Ally Manning

The beginning to every drawing starts with the ability to see them as more than what they are. Ever remember walking into your local doctors office and see random pictures framed up on the walls? It distracted you from what seemed like the longest wait of your life. Well more or less the paintings probably were pieces by the one and only Norman Rockwell.  Norman Rockwell was the artist to take something from every day life, he strayed from a religious background because his parents were strong in their faith; he decided draw things in a traditional aspect more than religious. He was the one who chose to represent the emotions of every possible situation a person could be in, his paintings and/or drawings brought out a deeper meaning in every facial expression, in the body language. Each and every one of his pieces of work set its own tone, and in a way displays several references to important times in history. Rockwell’s taste also seems to be more lenient towards historical aspects, and daily living.

Although, Norman always knew he wanted to be an artist since he was 14 years of age, the biography website says, Rockwell was “talented at a young age, he received his first commission at age of 17.” He began his career in making cover pages and posters for The Saturday Evening Post. 1919-01-18-Saturday-Evening-Post-Norman-Rockwell-cover-Sailor-Dreaming-of-Girlfriend-no-logo-400This piece was one of the covers he painted for the post. The painting above has its own sense of imagery, Rockwell somehow painted out the words instead of just a picture.

There are signs his paintings were a little on the comedic side, as well as serious parts of the picture as well. Everyone seems to be fairly happy in this picture as being together as a family. It could be imagined Rockwell came from a high functional and close knit family.

He transforms reality into something beautiful, and many people can probably express that his paintings even in the darkest of times lightened up their spirits. His paintings are simple to relate to because of their separate tones in each of how true to real life they are. Rockwell depicts a kind of liveliness, and warm in his paintings no matter if they are seemed to be grave, like the soldier feeding the little girl. Norman Rockwell has forever amazed many of the art viewers, brought to life so many situations most people wouldn’t have ever thought of could make such a beautiful painting. His art will go on inspiring artists, his paintings fascinating little children in their doctor’s offices, and hopefully opening people’s eyes to see reality can be something bright and something beautiful.
