Learning Objectives:
Students will be able to create an accurate, realistic rendering of their portrait.

Materials:
Graphite and Eraser
White drawing paper
Mirror (at least 12” by 12”)

Time:
On Calendar

Homework:
Research Self-Portraiture
Work in Sketchbook

Process:
Place your mirror on an easel at eye level. Set up another easel so that you may easily see both your drawing paper and your mirror. You want to be able to move your head as little as possible while also drawing.

Using the techniques discussed in class, start first with the basic shape of your face. Some people have square, oval or round shaped faces. Work out the placement of your eyes, ears, nose, and mouth using the measurements and proportional techniques discuss in class. Always start with a gesture. You don’t want to spend an entire class working on a beautiful drawing of an ear, only to discover it’s an inch too high.

Your self-portrait may be creative, however, both eyes, your nose, mouth and at least one ear must be visible.
