Sam Larson by Yuka Kang

Sam Larson is a young lad in his 20’s who is a freelance artist and designer from San Diego, California. Here are some of his simplistic, penny-sized creations.

I really admire the theme of his works.

An interviewer asked him a few questions regarding his past works. Larson seems to have explained how the American West influences a lot of his works. “Its beautiful landscapes, animals, and people. The more I explore it, the more I enjoy it. Vintage travel souvenirs; I really like the simplicity and quality of old design”, Larson states.

Larson’s typical work varies on what his current projects are, creating works everyday. He always sets goals and is currently wanting to collaborate with Nike or Apple. He owns an online store (SteelBison) where he sells his own work. “A movie poster for a major film would be pretty cool too. In general what I care about most though is creating good art. If it ends up in a cool place, that’s just a plus,” Larson added.

Interviewer: What’s a favorite tip you’ve learned for either creating art or design, or staying motivated and inspired to create?

SL: I’m not much of a quote person or pinpointing one thing when it comes to design. I simply create because I love it. You have to love it. You have to be passionate and truly care about it. If you are dedicated good things will happen and hard work will pay off. It’s pretty simple really.

Sam Larson is very passionate about art and doing what you love. It is something that I truly need to work on myself and I think that is why I admire him as much as I do.

Here is a short clip of Larson drawing an illustration called Walrus Eating Pizza.
