Dinner Party

The dinner party was about showing the achievements of women through history. Not only their achievements but also what embodies a woman. She uses the Goddess to portray the beauty that represents us. Created based on the Last Supper which was male dominant. I love her using the symbolization of the butterfly to represent the freedom that women want and need. It shows being pinned down and stuck and the metamorphosis of becoming free.

It shows the development of Goddess worship, showing her representation of women having social and political control. But she shows the reality of the fact in that time women were dominated by men and lived in oppression. In the text it says ” the women in The dinner party wanted to get themselves heard, fought to retain their influence,…. they wanted to exercise the  rights that they were entitled by the virtue of their birth, their talent, their genius , their desire, but they were prohibited to do so– were ridiculed, ignored….. because they were WOMEN!!!!”

Her work takes you on a tour through history, it shows you powerlessness vs. power. To think outside the box. Power doesn’t always mean you are getting the correct information.it just means you are getting whatever the writer or “person of power” is wanting you to know. she wants you to think about what’s missing.  Which is real life, real people, all colors and status’s living together representing mankind.

She wanted to get people to establish a respect for not only women but women artists as well. She showed us a glimpse into history, as well as in how women expressed themselves through art all the way back to beginning of what we know as time. 25.704DSC_042333.712
